Airbrush tanning involves applying a smooth and even micro-fine mist of tanning solution with an airbrush. Unlike spray booths, airbrush tanning is applied by hand by our certified technicians, giving you a healthy glow without the downsides associated with UV tanning such as skin damage, premature wrinkles, sagging and risk of skin cancer.
Tantrum uses a professional solution that incorporates Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), the active FDA approved ingredient used in self-tanners. DHA, derived from sugar cane, interacts with the proteins in the outer layer of your skin to give you a natural, beautiful brown color. This solution is paraben-free.
Our solution contains DHA, which the Academy of Dermatology says is the common ingredient in the most effective sunless tanning products. This solution is not absorbed by your body; instead, it reacts with the proteins in the outermost layer of your skin to produce the tanning effect.
Airbrush tanning is a completely different experience from the spray booth. Unlike spray booths, our technicians apply the airbrush tan in an even layer across your entire body, including hard-to-reach places. This leaves no streaks, drips or unsightly orange coloration on your hands and feet. Tantrum's ability to give you exactly the tan you want means you won't leave without being 100% satisfied.
Though effective, airbrush tanning is not an exact science, and results will vary depending on the client's skin type. We have different solution strengths that compensate for different skin types. You should have realistic expectations, and you should let us know about any areas of concern on your body that you may have. But we know you'll be impressed with the results!
The tanning session takes approximately 25 minutes: 15 minutes for spraying, and 10 minutes to dry.
We ask that prior to your tanning session you shower, shave and exfoliate to make sure the tan will develop properly. Do not apply any makeup, moisturizer or deodorant. Wear loose-fitting clothing and flip-flops. Other products, such as oil-based exfoliants and other products, can also interfere with your tan. See below for further information about how to prepare.
We advise that you do not shower for at least 8 to 10 hours… and the longer you can go, the better. Try to avoid strenuous activity that would lead to sweating, as well. Avoid hot showers and moisturize daily.
Depending on how you take care of your skin, your tan will last anywhere from one to two weeks. Airbrush tans fade just like real tans do: skin cell replacement naturally "fades" your skin. Exfoliants like loofahs, bar soap, chlorine from pools and hot tubs, swimming in the ocean, shaving or waxing will also hasten the fading of your tan. Cold weather or excessive sun bathing can also cause your skin to peel, so protect yourself if you expose yourself to these conditions.
It's important to note that simply swimming in a pool or ocean will not cause your tan to "wash off."
See our products page about our DHA tan-extending lotion that can sustain your healthy glow longer.
Women who want tan lines should wear a dark-colored bathing suit or similar underwear, or they can opt for no tan lines at all. We ask that men wear dark-colored swimsuits or underwear of some kind. Our solution is water-soluble and washes out of most synthetic fabrics and all natural ones.
We recommend that you talk to your doctor before you decide to have an airbrush tan. That said, for years pregnant women have had no trouble using sunless tanning systems like ours.
